On Wednesday, 26th July, 2006 the JU-SYLFF Association had organised an afternoon of entertainment for the patients at the Leprosy Mission, Kolkata. About seventy-one patients attended the programme.
The programme started with some of the Fellows singing songs. Soon, the Fellows were joined by the patients who started humming with them. Together they sang a Bengali song – “the drums are beating and the sky is full of joy...let's all come and enjoy”. It was really an enthralling experience.
A movie called Iqbal was also screened as part of the programme. Iqbal talks about how a young boy (name: Iqbal) overcame his physical disability and poverty and represented India in Cricket. The movie is loaded with motivation and "Can Do" spirit. All the patients enjoyed the movie a lot and it was really touching to see them cheering the young hero who makes it to his goal despite his physical diability. The 3-hr programme ended with sweets being distributed among the patients. The SYLFF Fellows themselves distributed these sweets among the patients.
The Fellows plan to organise more such programmes in future – covering other leprosy mission hospitals in Kolkata.
