CONSULTATIVE WORKSHOP
“A Consultative Workshop: Understanding Social Issues Through a Participatory & Holistic Approach” was held on 24th November, 2006 at Prof. Anita Banerjee Memorial Hall, UG Arts Building, Jadavpur University. This workshop was an effort to keep alive the dialogue between the researchers, subject groups and the larger continuum in social science theory and practice.
FOCUS
The workshop focused on Micro Studies i.e. analyzing the margins of society; their location, internal organization, maneuvering strategies and patters of relationship with the dominant society, and Macro Studies which looked at the nature, source and direction of economic and political divergence/ convergence in a globalizing world in order to explore alternative developmental pathways to tackle the challenges of sustainability.

INAUGURAL SESSION
The inaugural session opened with a welcome speech by Doctoral level SYLFF Fellow and Workshop Co-organizer Mr. Ritajyoti Bandyopadhyay.
Mr. Isamu Maruyama, Chief Program Administrator, Scholarship Division The Tokyo Foundation (TKFD), Ms. Mami Ino, Program Administrator, Scholarship Division (TKFD), Prof. Biswajit Chatterjee, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Jadavpur University; Prof. Joyashree Roy, SYLFF Project Director, Jadavpur University, Mr. G. Pattanayak, Finance Officer, Jadavpur University; Mr. S.G. Sarkar, Deputy Registrar, Jadavpur University, and Ms. Ericka Jennifer, the visiting fellow from Howard University, USA were among the distinguished guests who graced the occasion.
Prof. Biswajit Chatterjee was invited to chair the inaugural session.
Mr. Isamu Maruyama read out the message from Ms. Ellen Mashiko, Executive Director, Scholarship Division (TKFD).
Prof. Biswajit Chatterjee described SYLFF as a participatory and holistic approach to research which aims at an interactive understanding of social process and its changes.
Mr. S.G. Sarkar congratulated the entire SYLFF Family for carrying on such a great programme in Jadavpur University.
Prof. Joyashree Roy expressed her confidence about the sustainability of the SYLFF Programme at Jadavpur University.
Mr. Duke Ghosh, Principal Organizer, Fellows: Jadavpur University - SYLFF Association thanked the TKFD members, panelists, the Steering Committee members, the Project Director and all the participants.
