On 24th December, 2009, SYLFF Fellows from Jadavpur University spent an afternoon and an evening with the patients of the Leprosy Mission in Kolkata. Such visits are organized almost every year by the fellows of JU-SYLFF Association. The idea is to arrange for some entertainment for the patients so as to break the monotony of their every day lives and to rejuvenate them. We interacted with each of the patients and distributed sweets, cakes and chocolates. We were touched by their warm welcome and their zeal for life. It was a moving experience for all of us. The strength, spontaneity and courage of the patients are truly inspiring.
A film-show was organised as part of our programme. We screened Jaane Bhi do Yaaro(1983), a classic comedy which despite time remains fresh and entertaining, and shows individuals standing up to truth. The patients thoroughly enjoyed the movie and watched it with rapt attention.
It was extremely satisfying for all of us to see the patients contended and relaxed. The smiles on their faces, enthusiasm and the sheer delight in their eyes aptly reflected their elation
